Wind farm

Projects on SCA's land

SCA is Europe’s largest private forest owner, and many of our lands are well suited for wind power. Today, we are involved in several wind farms in northern Sweden, at various stages – from early planning to full operation. On our land, around 20 percent of Sweden’s total wind power production is generated, mainly from areas that we lease to project companies.

Consideration for People, Environment, and Economy

Developing wind power is an extensive process that requires time and thorough investigations. In the planning phase, we always consider three perspectives:

The social perspective – people and society.
We initiate local dialogue as early as possible and conduct formal consultations with residents, businesses, associations, and other stakeholders.

The ecological perspective – nature and wildlife.
Surveys and studies are carried out in several stages, and projects are often adapted to minimize impact before an application is submitted.

The economic perspective – profitability.
Wind conditions must be sufficient for production to cover its costs and contribute to a stable energy supply. A modern wind turbine has, on average, high availability and produces electricity for a large part of the year, even though output varies with the wind.

Project areas on SCA's properties

An overview of all project areas on SCA's land that are in progress of being developed or already are in operations are shown in the map function below. For more information click on each project area. Areas have been classified according to the different project phases for example ”early dialogue", "construction", "development", and "commissioned". For external projects, we refer to the respective project company.

The map tool also shows SCA's high nature values areas, which have been voluntary set aside, and areas that are managed with alternative methods.

Collaborations

SCA has long collaborated with several wind power operators by leasing land for wind energy projects. In addition, SCA has established a strategic partnership with OX2, through which the parties jointly develop new wind power projects.

On 7 May 2019, SCA and OX2 signed a cooperation agreement for the development of new wind power. The objective is to realize approximately 1,000 MW of new wind power capacity, with an annual electricity production of around 2.3 TWh. The partners have identified several suitable areas in northern Sweden where project development is progressing.

On 7 May 2019, SCA and OX2 signed a cooperation agreement for the development of new wind power. The goal is to realize approximately 1,000 MW of new wind power capacity over a five-year period, with annual electricity generation of around 2.3 TWh. Initially, the parties identified several suitable areas in northern Sweden, where project development has already begun.
